red, white and blue yarn pompoms

Today we are going to be making 4th of July yarn pompoms.  You all know that I'm a knitter... and I always have yarn around the house.  For today's project, I went out and bought some inexpensive yarn at Joann's.  You will need a pompom maker too.  Don't worry, you will use that thing again, I promise. You are going to wrap yarn around both sides of the pompom maker.  My daughter Olivia made a bunch of these for me...

Once you are done wrapping, you cut both sides and tie yarn around the middle to secure it.  It's so easy...

These little flip flops were $1.99.  They look awfully cute with patriotic pompoms attached!

Once I made a whole bunch, I used a yarn needle to make a pompom banner.

I love it on the mantel.  See the cute toy horse?  My mother wanted me to throw it in the garbage, can you imagine?  See this project and more on this Saturday morning on Fox 9 twin cities at 7:45!

  1. what a cute project and oh how fun! You're going to be on TV?! How exciting!

Well knock me over, I didn't know there WAS such a thing as a pom pom maker! I must get one- and some yarn- for my grandgirls and me!

You know what's funny? As soon as I saw your post title, I said to myself, "Hooray!" and then I saw those words on your little vintage graphic! I guess vintage kids and I think the same. :)

  2. I love it! Love that horse too! Glad you didn't throw it out!

  3. I have this pom pom maker and I love it! I am addicted to making pom poms. Love your garland!

  4. ADORABLE!! Hope you can link this up at my trendy tuesday party!! http://www.sweetlittlegals.com

  5. I've had a pom pom maker sitting around here and I've never used it. Now I know what to make. The garland is adorable. Just need to get some yarn. Love it!

  6. How cute! I love the idea of using yarn instead of tissue paper. They hold up much better! Hope you have a great week. Come visit me and enter my giveaway going on.

  7. These are fantastic! I hope you'll add these to my Patriotic Project Parade going on now through July 4th!

  8. Oh My Gosh I love this! Would you please come over to Cast Party Wednesday and share it with us? Thanks, I hope to see you there! ---Sheryl @ Lady Behind The Curtain---

  9. My daughter and I made the pom pom garland! Turned out nice! Don't have a pom pom maker-- had to use a dumb old piece if cardboard, but it worked fine! Thanks for a project to keep the child busy!!
