gumdrop topiary

It's candy week at Vintage Umbrella.  Oh, I wish I didn't like candy so much.  When I craft with it I have to try VERY hard not to eat it.  If you like crafting with candy  check out my candy crafts pinterest board... http://pinterest.com/jenni_swenson1/candy-crafts/
Today,  we are going to make a gumdrop topiary.  I'm using it on the candy table at my daughter's graduation party.  First, you need a styrofoam ball, a glue gun and lots of gumdrops.  I used 3 bags for the ball I chose.

Start hot gluing the gumdrops on.  Dots would work for this project too.  Just keep gluing.  Be patient... it takes awhile!

When you are done, stick a dowel in the ball.  Don't use one that is too thin... it won't hold the ball up.  I wrapped my dowel in baker's twine.

Stick some florist foam in your bucket or clay pot.  I stuck the dowel in the florist foam and put some hot glue on top.  Cover the foam with candy.

You might want a ribbon on top too!  Love it.  It's a showstopper!

If you live in the twin cities area, don't forget to tune in to fox 9 http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/category/233671/morning on Saturday morning, June 2nd.  I will be sharing these candy ideas, and even doing a little live crafting with Karen!

  1. I'll be sure to tune in! That is the most colorful tree ever! Makes me wanna burst into the chorus of 'The Big Rock Candy Mountain' and probably makes dentists jump for joy because I know you must taste some as you make that thing, right?

  2. This is amazing! I am loving these ideals!! Do you need to spray it or anything to keep the bugs from getting into it once you are done using it to be able to store it?
Thanks for sharing all of these ideals!

  4. I am going to try this for a Baby Shower centerpiece. I am going to use toothpicks, so that the gumdrops are edible. I also think I'll paint my ball green...
