dala horse ornament

After 30 hours in the car, we made it to Phoenix.  We had a fun, quick stop in Sante Fe this afternoon which was the highlight of my day.  I watched the latest remake of Jane Eyre which was amazing.  I don't know how many times of seen that movie but I love it.

We are halfway done with my Christmas ornament series... day 12!  Today we are making Swedish dala horses.  I got this pattern from a Holiday magazine this fall.  I just love these little horses.  I'm from Minnesota, and we have lots of Scandinavians in the state.  All 3 of my little dala horses came from garage sales... who sells this stuff?!

I love the shape and the color.  I even have a little chair covered in dala horse fabric.

First I cut the horses out of felt.
Next I stitched them together... I'm not going to lie... this took awhile.  I added some details with felt and embroidery floss.

Here is mine next to the original from the magazine.

Next, my favorite part... embellishing.

I thought they were so cute I decided to sew one onto a baby hat... I know a very special mama who loves dala horses.

I added a little pompom to make it extra cute.

A card to go with the present.  I got the stamp at a scandinavian store in Wisconsin.

I loooove it!   I hope baby Osa will too.   xoxo  Jenni

  1. My favorite part of your projects is the embellishing, too! These are absolutely awesome! Adding the horse to the baby hat is precious!
