gnome peg dolls

Welcome back to day 7 of handmade gifts.... Are you throwing up your hands in the air and saying "who has time?!"  I understand completely.  It won't offend me at all if you just look.  Ha!
Today's handmade gift is little gnome peg dolls.  There was a huge interest in the little peg dolls from last week.  These are a similar idea.  I have a little nativity set with peg dolls and felt in the works...   I knitted the little hats, but I think you could use a little felt if you don't knit.  To make the gnome's hats, cast on 8 using double pointed needles.  Knit 8 rows in the round.  Decrease the last 2 rounds and pull the yarn through.

Next I wound yarn around little natural wood spools.  You can get these at Michael's.  I secured the yarn with hot glue.

The wood circles are also from Michael's.  I sprayed them with an acrylic sealer so that I could use a sharpie for the eyes.  If you don't spray them the ink will bleed.

Hot glue the pieces together and you have simple little peg dolls.  These would be adorable ornaments too.  If you want arms, you could hot glue pipe cleaners to the back.  I wanted to keep them simple for 3 year old preschoolers.

I think they are awfully sweet...

  1. Oh for goodness sake! I missed Sat. a.m on 9 so if you showed these I would have been off to try it right away! I don't knit but those tiny hats might be worth learning for! Had surgery last Tues. at Piper in Mpls and I'm still trying to get my game on.
