Peeps on Parade

I am busy getting ready for my peeps appearance tomorrow.  As I was hot gluing peeps to a styrofoam ball this morning I heard them discussing my segment on the morning news.  The headline said "She's crafty!" which made me laugh.  Since I was a kid I've always been the crafty one.

If you live in the twin cities area I hope you will tune in to http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/ and see me in action.  It is going to be hard for me to stop smiling when I think of all my friends and family tuning in.

Eat your carrots!

Today's project is a cute one.  I originally found it here...http://clarescraftroom.blogspot.com/2012/01/so-you-can-get-hopping.html
I started by cutting some orange fabric into 3 inch strips... I then folded it in half and cut on the diagonal to make the carrot shape.

The leaves are little scraps of green sewn together with a rounded top.  Turn them inside out, fold down a little seam on the carrots to make a finished edge...

Stuff the carrots and hand sew shut.  When my daughter saw these on the kitchen table she said "seriously?!"

I am busy getting prepared for my appearance on fox 9 news Sunday morning at 9:15.  If you live in the Minneapolis area I hope you will tune in.  I will be sharing a bunch of peeps ideas!

Thrifty Thursday

Today's project is a thrifty one!  I don't know about you, but I'm on a budget right now.   I am trying to use the things I already have... and get rid of the things I don't need.  Don't you love these little vintage cupcake toppers?  I bought them at a garage sale years ago.

I found these little pink baskets at the dollar spot at Target.  I think they were $2.50.  I don't like when they sneak the more expensive items in there but these were too cute to pass up.

I got out a bunch of fabric scraps and cut them into 1 inch strips.  I used ribbon and ricrac too.

I tied the little strips and ribbon all around the basket... so easy!

More Peeps...

Hi everyone!  Do you like surprises?  Yesterday, I had 2 good ones.  First, my neighbor (a producer at a local t.v. station) emailed me to see if I would like to appear on the Fox 9 Sunday morning show.  Why, yes I would!  I will be doing a 4 minute segment on Peeps crafts!  If you live in the Minneapolis area I will be on Sunday morning at 9:15.
Later in the day, the Washington post contacted me to see if I would allow them to use my photograph on their blog... see it here...http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/arts-post/post/peeps-eat-them-craft-them--kill-them/2012/03/26/gIQA72fddS_blog.html  The Washington Post!  Blogging has taught me how small the world really is.  I have no idea how she found my photo... I am guessing pinterest... http://pinterest.com/jenni_swenson1/

I ran to the Peeps store today to pick up a bunch of Peeps for my appearance.  We have a Peeps store in the Mall of America if you can believe it.  The employees there were incredibly nice.  They even donated some Peeps for me to use for my projects!  (Thanks, guys!)  The store is full of all sorts of Peeps stuff.  Cute, colorful, squishiness everywhere!

Any ideas for my t.v. appearance Sunday?  I am going to share all of last week's projects and maybe a few new ones.  Have a great day!  xoxo  Jenni

paint chip bunny garland

I know we have all seen these cute paint chip projects http://jennicanknit.blogspot.com/2012/02/paint-chip-bookmarks.html... but I haven't seen bunnies yet.  I used my peeps pattern from peeps week.  I strolled into Home Depot and acted like I was painting the whole house in Easter egg colors.  Took a handful of paint cards, brought them home and cut a bunch of bunnies.

Oh my, these are cute, right?  Next they needed eyes and a nose... I used little punched circles.

I sewed mine to ribbon and hung them as a garland.  You can glue them too if you are anti-sewing.

I hung them on my yellow chicken wire frame... http://jennicanknit.blogspot.com/2012/02/chicken-wire-frame.html

Easter centerpiece

Today I finally got out my Easter decorations.  I started with a 3 tier stand I got from Pottery Barn about a year ago.  I covered each tier with a little bit of green Easter grass.

I filled up a favorite vintage jar with some eggs....  I look for jars like that at every junk store I go to!

I filled in each of the tiers with cute Easter figurines and lots of eggs!  Cute and easy!  Are you on pinterest yet?  Check out my Easter ideas board...http://pinterest.com/jenni_swenson1/easter/
